River Tanking at Calamus Outfitters

What is river tanking? It is quite simple to explain. We take plastic water or feeding tanks used for livestock, and specially outfit them with comfortable seating for floating down the river!

Why is this so unique and fun? Unlike a canoe, which usually goes in one direction, a tank will allow you to bob and rotate in the river-kind of like a Tilt-O-Whirl on water!

The Calamus River is a great river to go tanking on. It has a relatively slow current and shallow enough water that all ages can enjoy tanking down her. Grassy banks and beautiful scenery top it all off!

River tanking is a great way to relax, enjoy the scenery, sights and smells of the Nebraska Sandhills and prairie. Catch some rays, read a book or do what ever you like. But most of all relax!

When river tanking in Nebraska at Calamus Outfitters, you will have the opportunity to either enjoy a two-hour trip or a five-hour trip. You can stay with us overnight or simply come out and enjoy a day tanking on the river.

On Saturdays, tanks are $75.00 for 5-hour trip, $65.00 for 2-hour trip. Sunday-Friday, tanks are $65.00 for either a 5 or 2-hour trip. One tank will hold 4-5 adults. Your river tanking trip at Calamus Outfitters includes life jackets, pole, and drop-off and pick-up transportation.

We ask that all abide by the following simple rules:
  • No littering.
  • No radios or boom boxes on the river.
  • No profanity please. We are a family friendly river. Please respect other groups on the river.
